Election Day: 2008

Well, Davis did his part. Did you?

Davis and I headed to the polls around 10am and were greeted with the largest line we had ever had in our 4 years at this polling place. It was good to see everyone engaged... I only wish it were like this for every election. It's only when the people show an interest that things get done. We live in a pretty diverse precinct and really, it was nice to see so many different walks of life being represented. While I obviously have some really strong beliefs in who should lead us, I do love the fact that everyone can have a say, even if I don't agree with them.

Davis was very talkative to everyone who wanted to engage him. He continually said "we bote for predident" (we vote for president) when people asked him what he was doing. It made my heart smile. And here's a picture of him outside the old voting place...

On a very serious note, Chris and I have a lot of strong beliefs that we tend to make known. Everyone knows how "gung-ho" I am about politics... the fact I believe one voice can make a difference, one issue can be a game changer, and one who really prays will make the difference.

We all know that I am that one in what feels like a bazillion person who actually respects and appreciates George W. Bush. We didn't take naming our son lightly, and I am proud of the fact that someday I get to teach Davis that his middle name comes from the President who was in office when he was born. I am still proud of that decision, and I hope that one day others will come to appreciate "W" the way that Chris and I have.

So maybe I am just a lonely voice out in the blogosphere who has been really troubled and saddened by the fact that it's time to move on. Think of him what you will, but I for one have been appreciative of the fact that we have had a leader over the past eight years who doesn't think of himself as the supreme authority. He talks with supreme authority everyday when, as a man of faith, he prays. I can only hope, and pray, that our next leader does the same.

So I end on this note: If I am to believe the media, I'm not gonna be a happy camper over the next 4 years. And even if the media is wrong, shoot, McCain wasn't my first choice by a long shot. We HAVE to keep the main thing the main thing... Jesus is the real ruler. Things here on earth will disappear. If you put your hope in a government, or a country, or a leader, or even in an economy, you are setting yourself up for failure. Jesus is the only answer.

Colossians 1: 15-18
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from anomg the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
